About

Who we are

Hipobuy Parcel Atlas is a small editorial desk in Rotterdam, founded in 2021. We cover one narrow subject: what happens to an order between the moment it reaches the Hipobuy warehouse and the moment a parcel is signed for at the door. Warehouse intake, storage windows, photo checks, consolidation, repacking, reinforcement, labelling and handover to the carrier — that is the whole beat.

We are three editors and a rotating bench assistant. We buy the items we write about, we pack them ourselves at our own bench, and we ship them to fixed destinations so the numbers can be compared month to month.

How the desk started

The site began as a shared spreadsheet. Our editor-in-chief was working a freight customer-service desk in Hamburg and kept a private log of parcel prep outcomes for friends who bought from overseas marketplaces. The log grew into a comparison table, the table grew into a newsletter, and in 2021 the newsletter became this site. The bench, the reference item set and the tamper-tape routine came later — all three exist so that a sentence like "consolidation saved 41 percent of volumetric weight" can be traced back to a photograph and a scale reading.

What we publish

  • Hands-on reviews of warehouse add-on services and packing outcomes, scored on a five-point scale.
  • Consolidation comparisons: two shipments, one consolidated, one not, weighed at every step.
  • Timing data from our own order logs: intake to shelf, shelf to pack, pack to carrier scan.
  • Practical guides to prep requests, restricted items and label formats.

We do not cover general shopping advice, marketplace politics or anything we cannot put on the bench. Editorial enquiries go to editorial@hipo-buy.org.

Editors

Lena Voss
Warehouse intake workflows, consolidation economics, volumetric weight, carrier handover cut-offs

Lena Voss

Editor-in-Chief
Lena Voss runs the Atlas desk and owns the consolidation beat. She spent six years on a freight forwarder's customer-service floor in Hamburg before moving into cross-border e-commerce logistics writing, and she has been weighing parcels professionally since 2012. She started the Atlas shipment log as a private spreadsheet in 2018 and turned it into a public desk in 2021. At the bench she handles the consolidation tickets, the volumetric-weight maths and the final score sheet.
Tomas Reyes
Packaging protection, drop and stack testing, photo-check accuracy, returns and damage claims

Tomas Reyes

Reviews Editor
Tomas Reyes runs the packing bench. He spent four years as a quality-control supervisor on a Rotterdam e-commerce fulfilment floor, where he wrote the damage-claim playbook and learned exactly which carton failures are predictable. He joined the Atlas desk in 2022 and now plans the reference item set, runs the drop and stack checks, and writes the packaging section of every review. He also handles the photo-check comparisons, since a mislabelled warehouse photo is the most common cause of a wrong-item claim.
Priya Raghunathan
Fee tables, agent pricing audits, quarterly timing datasets, reader survey design

Priya Raghunathan

Research Editor
Priya Raghunathan keeps the numbers honest. She spent five years as a data analyst for a Southeast Asian last-mile carrier before turning to consumer-facing logistics research, and she has been building parcel-cost models since 2014. At the Atlas desk she maintains the quarterly timing table, audits every fee quoted in a review against the invoice, and runs the reader survey that tells us which warehouse questions to test next. She is the reason the site publishes its sample sizes.
